(Matang Wildlife Centre)











The Matang Wildlife Centre is about 35km from Kuching. Located in Kubah National Park, this large enclosed area of rainforest is home to endangered wildlife. There is a training programme here that teaches Orang Utans, who have been orphaned or rescued from captivity, how to survive in the wild. Visitors will be able to see lots of Orang Utans here, especially during feeding time. Besides these adorable primates, there are also Sun Bears, Sambar Deer, Civet cats as well as three large aviaries that house Sea Eagles, Hornbills and other birds in Sarawak.
Jungle trekking is also possible as there are four jungle trails here, the Pitcher Trail (takes about 2 hours), the Sungai Rayu Trail ( about 3 - 4 hours), the Sungai Senduk trail (about 1 hour) and Sungai Buluh trail (about 2 hours). Picnic spots, an information centre, accommodation facilities, a car park and a small canteen are available at the park HQ.


(Niah National Park)








Niah Caves is located within the district of Miri in Sarawak, Malaysia. Part of Niah National Park, the main cave, Niah Great Cave, is located in Gunung Subis and is made up of several voluminous, high-ceilinged chambers.
  The cave is an important prehistorical site where human remains dating to 40,000 years have been found. This is the oldest recorded human settlement in east Malaysia. More recent studies published in 2006 have shown evidence of the first human activity at the Niah caves from ca. 46,000 to ca. 34,000 years ago. The caves are also well known for the birds' nest (Swiftlet) industry. It is a popular tourist destination in Sarawak . Niah National Park is about 1hr 45min drive from Miri town centre.
 The entrance fee costs RM10 per adult which you can pay and register at the park headquarters. The headquarters opens at 9.am and closes at 5.30pm daily. Don't worry if you haven't brought the essentials with you like raincoat or ponchos, torch lights and caps, there are items for sale there and the torch lights are on rental at RM10 per unit.The boat rental is RM1 per person per way and takes a mere 1 minute to cross the width of Niah river. The boat times are from 9.00am to 5.00pm and from 5.00pm to 7.00pm it's RM1.50 per person per way.
